How do I stay safe at Sacrewell?
There are natural areas across our site. Water may be deep. Rocks, paths and steps may be slippery. Surfaces may be uneven. Wear suitable footwear. Children must always be under adult supervision.
Our 18th century watermill has low ceilings and steep steps, take extra care. Children must always be under adult supervision.
Animals are lovely and messing about in the countryside is fun but you should be aware that animals commonly carry bugs that can be passed on to humans and can cause illness. This can happen through touching animals, surfaces such as fences, gates, the ground – even your shoes.
Thorough hand washing is the best way to prevent infection. Please ensure that children are properly supervised and that you all wash your hands:
- Often throughout your visit
- Immediately after contact with animals
- After visiting the toilet
- Before eating and drinking

Can I bring my dog?
Yes, well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome at Sacrewell. You’ll find water bowls for them at reception and outside the mill house and if they enjoy a longer walk you could take them on one of our ramble routes. As we have a large number of toddlers and young visitors on site, we do insist that owners pick up after their dogs and that access to the Playbarn, the shop and the cafe is for assistance dogs only.
How accessible is Sacrewell?
Sacrewell has natural areas across the site and the terrain is varied. There are areas where water may be deep and where rocks, paths and steps may be slippery. Grassy pathways can become muddy in bad weather and surfaces may be uneven.
Sacrewell is also home to a restored 18th century watermill where there are low ceilings and steep steps.
Visitors are urged to take extra care and wear sensible footwear. Children must always be under adult supervision.

Does the admission charge include access to the watermill and the Playbarn?
Yes, your admission to Sacrewell includes the chance to explore our Grade II* listed watermill inside and out and all outdoor play areas and the Playbarn, soft play area (subject to availability on timed sessions).
Where can I eat my picnic?
We have several picnic tables around site, with a large area in the mill garden which is next to toilet and handwashing facilities. There’s also a quieter picnic area by the mill pond and, of course, you are welcome to eat your picnic in our Playbarn as well. If you’ve brought a comfy blanket, we don’t mind you popping it down on the grass in these picnic areas. Please note, visitors are not permitted to bring alcohol to consume on site.
I have a pet that I can no longer look after, can I donate it to Sacrewell?
We have to be very selective in choosing our animals at Sacrewell, so we don’t accept donations of unwanted pets. We suggest that you contact the RSPCA or Wood Green Animal Shelter to see if they can help.
